While it’s not the cheapest place in town, the food is worth it – and the line to get in proves it. The location is conveniently located in University Village. If Din Tai Fung sounds familiar, it’s because it’s actually a Seattle outpost for a chain that is extremely popular in Taiwan. They do a massive takeout business, but there’s also a lively space where you can sit around casually and eat until your heart is content. You’ll be able to choose from baked and fried items that range from custard buns to egg tarts. The restaurant has also won a number of awards, including Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice award. Be warned, though, that it’s not available for their dinner service. Between the 4 of us, we only managed to eat about a quarter of what I ordered. It is at least twice the size! So is everything else. Everything else was fantastic and supersized! The sesame ball is not the typical one you find at buffets. At least it was the only item that we couldn't eat. I paid about $24 for 17 items since most were 90 cents I believe the most expensive item was $3, so you get A LOT of dim sum for cheap. They had my order ready which came in 2 large plastic boxes and 1 small (with the rice roll). The restaurant leaves their door open which made it feel safer since it is a tiny restaurant, more like a bakery than restaurant. I did order a rice roll (I asked for plain) and a couple of egg rolls hoping those would be ok. I placed an order online I stuck to mostly sweet dim sum since those I know do not have meat in them. Whenever you go for dim sum, there are usually only a few items you can get.
